Málbjörg is the Icelandic organisation for stutterers, founded in 1991.
The board of our organization works according to the laws and policies
of the association. That includes among other things:
- Give people who stutter an opportunity to help each other by conversing
in a comfortable environment and exchange opinions and experiences.
- To take care of interests of those who stutter against authorities,
schools and employers.
- To increase knowledge of those who stutter and others about stuttering,
the problems involved for those who stutter and stuttering treatments.
- Organise/spread knowledge about stuttering among every one that might be interested,
e.g. in kindergartens and primary schools, on Lion’s and Rotary
meetings. Our organisation can be contacted for further information.
- Stimulate parents to have stuttering evaluated by a speech therapist before
it becomes a problem.
- Stimulate relationships among those who stutter, especially children.
- Urge those who stutter to speak. Make stuttering more visible and less
prone to shyness.
